Day 156

We had a snow day yesterday. I’m not really surprised since it was a high of 4 with a windchill of -20 or something like that. And that was just in Columbus. It was colder at my house. What did I do with my extra free time? Tried to stay warm. Darn drafty old house. And I read about geometric abstraction. And I tried to animate with drawing on post-its. Which determined that I definitely like working with stop motion more than illustration. Now to upgrade my computer…

Day 142

Well, dear readers, it is the beginning of a new semester and I will do my best to outdo myself from last semester. We’ll see. I just learned how to use Flash. Not the program I need for my animated sculptures, but I like learning new things. Technology! Animation! Paperclay! This is not crazy! Seriously, this is not crazy, right? Animating my inanimate sculptures via technology that’s in my hand? Dragonframe and qr codes. Manganese washes and screen-printing. More building metal bits out of clay and possibly using less of organic looking metal pieces. Hopefully this works. Fingers crossed.

Day 108

Wow. That was awesome. Seeing everyone’s work all cleaned up and displayed as intended was impressive. Let’s do this again sometime. So tired right now, pics to come very soon. Like tomorrow. Pictures galore. There might even be a whole bucketful of them added to my “Sculptures” page.

Happy 36th, Crispin. You would have loved this.

Day 107

This is what I did this morning, still working hard even with the installation this afternoon and presentations tomorrow. It was cold this morning in the garage, even after having to wrestling Jud outside so I could work without accidentally setting the dog on fire. Now I’m off to school to finish my pieces and take pretty pictures of them. I’m not freaking out over having to talk in front of people, nope nope nope.

Day 99

And now it’s December. Dear readers, it is cold outside. And sometimes, so is my apartment. That’s what blankets and cats are for. I have less than two weeks to go in this first semester of graduate school, there have been many strange things to deter me from finishing everything that needs to be done. Including a piece of 4’x8′ drywall that fell out of the sky and hit my truck, a locked kiln, a temperamental starter, the 7th season of dr who, gravity, my ancient computer, library copy of RASL and physics. Nevertheless, I have my second sculpture in the kiln and will weld my metal bits this week.
With hot chocolate in hand, thank you Rachel, I’m trying to not freak completely out about my presentation next week. I do not like getting up in front of people. I’m going to go make something now.
